5 Accounting cover letter examples for Experienced, Entry-Level, Accounting Clerks, and Accounting Assistants.
Amidst all the account payables, receivables, and the balance sheet reconciliation that an accounts professional does all day, it is difficult to eliminate the jargon and yet implicate you know your stuff when writing your accounting cover letter.
A cover letter is always an introduction of a candidate with the difference of what they are good at professionally and what they would like to offer to an employer.
You can eliminate all accounting duties you carry out at work and instead talk about why you like it, what makes it interesting for you or how you made a difference with your approach towards accounting.
Your accounting cover letter should describe you as a person with your interests in what you do. Your resume will do the rest.
However, you should write about the relevant number of years you have spent in the field. This is crucial to shortlisting your profile.
Write about 150-200 words in your cover letter. The shorter, the better for accounts unless you have something extraordinary to share. Example – you won an award at the state level, a significant achievement at work or you’re a contributing member of a reputed accounting community.
In the below examples, we’ll see how to make your cover letter effective while it is still easy to understand and does not sound like your resume.
Dear Hiring Manager,
I’m applying to the position of a Tax Accounting intern at your firm as advertised on the job board- indeed.com. I’m to complete my Bachelor’s degree in May this year from Emmanuel College, Boston with a major in Accounting and Math. The CPA services for international clients have my interest and I would be obliged to learn and experience it with the experts.
I have prepared myself for the CPA services for entrepreneurs through international internships with small and medium-size tax firms. I worked at a semi-government foundation that functioned to develop young entrepreneurs in Italy and assisted them in data collection and processing, preparing ad hoc financial reports, and reconciliation of transactions. I interned at a Canadian company last summer where I processed payroll for 200 employees of the firm, computed and filed tax returns of individuals, and since took up individual tax filing as a service offering to gain practical experience of taxation. I gained corporate tax experience in a fast-paced organization where things moved continuously and processes kept repeating themselves on a weekly and monthly basis which helped me organize myself and sync in the pace and gain momentum to accomplish and prioritize tasks.
With my previous internship and part-time work experience, I shall be able to contribute while I learn and adapt to CPA services at Cogneesol. I have attached my resume for your reference herewith. I may be reached via phone or email anytime. Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely, Jason Gibson
Dear Hiring Manager,
This is to apply for the position of Financial Auditor for the fall of 2020 semester. I’m entering my senior year of master’s degree in Accounting at Emmanuel College and I want to utilize the break and gain some real-world experience in auditing at Deloitte.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree a year earlier by taking accounting classes in a local community college earning myself a year to gain accounting experience before I enrolled in a master’s degree program. During this time I walked-in in a tax firm and managed to get an internship as an Account Assistant. I worked with tax auditors, and account team reconciling and analyzing financial statements to generate useful reports to be used by the management. I was also facing the clients for debt collection – calling and sending email notifications to remind and collect dues. The overall experience allowed me to be a part of the collaborative team and understand my role as a part of the functional system. I was also able to work for a local FMCG store as a part-time cashier for 3 months and then as a Staff Accountant during the 4 months to fill-in for their accounts person. I used SQUAVA software to reconcile everyday transactions with financial records and transfer data to financial statements weekly. I’m confident to be able to use any accounting software with ease by leveraging my experience with SQUAVA.
I’m available full-time from September to November and thereafter, 4 pm onwards for part-time work. I’m hoping to get an opportunity to meet you personally and talk about how I can be useful to Deloitte. Please find my contact details in the enclosed resume. I may be reached through phone and email at any time to answer any queries and set-up a meeting to discuss further.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application.
Sincerely, Patrick D’Souza
Dear Hiring Manager,
My name is Sharon and I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting in April 2020. I was introduced to the firm’s differentiating factor a year earlier when I attended an Eventbrite seminar in Boston, MA which was delivered by Micheal Fernando of Wolf & Company. I was convinced I should begin my career with this accounting giant to get exposure to the multitude and range of corporations that it serves under its umbrella.
I have since honed my skills in preparation to get an interview at the firm for the Entry-level Accounting Auditor positions that open this month every year.
My first role in the business world, though unconventional — as an electrical commissioner has much to offer to the accounting auditor role. Primarily, I reviewed documents to ensure they were completed to their specifications and faced clients under the shadow of Project Managers initially and thereafter solely to communicate progress on the projects and receive feedback for the team.
I joined the project in the planning phase and gained an understanding of the client’s business, and the overall process from development to delivery. After this experience in the corporate world, I started an accounting club to offer services such as- creating Pro-forma financial statements, calculating financial ratios, and designing controls. Incubating and running this 5-member club honed my leadership qualities and helped me get organized and prioritize client deliverables and college coursework while still maintaining a social life. Through my accounting club, I have built a clientele of 30 regular clients within 14 months allowing me to understand the auditing standards of various industries and the tax regulations governing them. My experiences give me an edge for efficient collaboration with the Wolf & Company team and being productive from the start.
I’m keen on discussing the Accounting Auditor profile further with you in a personal meeting. I shall follow up in the next 3 days to get an appointment or alternatively, you can reach me anytime through my phone or email mentioned in the enclosed resume.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely, Sharon Chandler
Dear Jane,
I have met Ernst & Young several times at accounting events, and each time, the firm has continued to impress with the passion and vigor of its employees. Thus, I would like to submit my application for the Accounting Clerk position. I believe my work experience and interpersonal skills make me a competitive candidate for this position.
I work in Income and Accounts Payable audits at PKF Boston accounting firm where I have gained most of my auditing experience. My responsibilities included the duties of a substitute Staff Accountant in addition to the accounting clerk role for the past 6 months. This gave me an opportunity to understand the key functions of various sub-departments of accounting and collaborate better between departments. I applied professional judgment when I compiled the reports, verified all figures with supporting documents, and analyzed them to share insights with the management. In addition, I learned the importance of having internal controls in place to detect errors. Aside from generating financial statements, I reviewed my coworker’s reports, and they did the same for me. These controls demonstrated the necessity of having the right tools in place to detect, resolve, and prevent errors. In this position, I learned to make the work more engaging and productive through collaborative partnerships within the team.
Previously, at an accounting firm, I was involved in the complete process of approaching, pitching, and selling to clients throughout the city, Boston, and the world. I realized that tailored solutions for each client were the key to success, thus I took the initiative to draft up and send proposals to prospective businesses. I believe that my awareness of the client’s business allowed me to better understand their needs and possible solutions. Such skills are highly valuable in auditing and would help me make a positive contribution to the engagement team.
Given my diverse work experience, technical aptitude, and soft skills, I believe I can make a positive impact on WC’s audit team. I’m available through my phone and email as mentioned in the attached resume at all times. I look forward to hearing from you soon in this regard.
Thank you for your consideration and have a great day!
Sincerely, Richard Simons
Dear Micheal,
This is to apply for the position of Accounts Assistant posted on your website. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a desire to learn and work in a fast-paced environment. I have had an experience with your team as a client in the past which created a very upbeat impression of the firm on me. I share the vision of the company to provide second-to-none service to my clients which all the more inclines me towards this vacancy.
During my previous jobs, I assisted my supervisors in performing internal and external audit activities. On a daily basis, I prepared balance sheet schedules, reconciled bank statements with transactions, recorded daily sales, and return bills, and compiled monthly reports for the senior Account Associates. I can establish and maintain positive working relationships with the managers as well as the other members of the team and build rapport with clients.
These experiences and skills make me an excellent candidate for this position. After you review my attached resume, I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss a full-time position at BDO. I will be in touch in the coming week to request an interview.
Thank you for your time and have a great day!
Sincerely, Salvator Thompson
